EU Funding for Asphalt Mixing Plant Upgrades – in Cooperation with Universities

Modern technologies in an asphalt mixing plant – higher RAP content, warm mix asphalt, foamed bitumen, electrically heated bitumen tanks or precise additive dosing – can be largely financed with European Union funds. The key is a well-prepared research and development (R&D) project. ROXX TECH helps you plan and deliver it in partnership with Polish technical universities and research institutes.

Why work with a university?

  • Higher application score – in many calls, the participation of a research institution earns extra points or is even required.
  • Reliable testing – university laboratories test mixes, emissions and energy consumption, proving the effect of the upgrade.
  • Research services as eligible costs – work contracted to the university can be included in the project budget.
  • Implementation of results – after the research phase, results are implemented in the plant, often within the same programme.

Which funding programmes are available?

  • FENG – SMART Path (Polish programme “European Funds for a Modern Economy”, PARP/NCBR) – R&D projects with optional implementation modules, including R&D infrastructure, innovation deployment and greening of enterprises. Funding can reach up to 80% of eligible costs, depending on the module, company size and type of work.
  • Regional EU programmes 2021–2027 – e.g. “European Funds for Pomerania” (Measure 1.1 “Research and innovation in enterprises”), also in partnership with a university or research institution.
  • Green transition and energy efficiency programmes – support for investments that cut emissions and energy use, e.g. switching from oil-heated to electrically heated bitumen tanks.
  • R&D tax relief – the Polish “ulga B+R” complements grants by allowing part of development costs to be deducted from the tax base.

Call deadlines and rules change every year. We monitor announcements continuously and inform our clients about calls that match their plans.

Example project topics in an asphalt mixing plant

  • Increasing the share of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in the mix.
  • Lowering production temperature (warm mix asphalt – WMA) and reducing CO₂ emissions.
  • Foamed bitumen technology for cold and half-warm mixes.
  • Electrically heated bitumen tanks replacing thermal oil systems.
  • Micro-dosing of liquid additives and recipe optimisation.
  • New control algorithms for the asphalt mixing plant – development of the RoxxAsphalt software.

How does cooperation with ROXX TECH work?

  1. Plant and goals analysis – we assess the technical condition of your plant and identify where innovation will have the greatest impact.
  2. Choice of programme and research partner – we connect your company with a university or institute with the right expertise.
  3. Technical project concept – we prepare the technical part of the application: R&D scope, schedule and technology budget.
  4. Delivery – we supply and install the equipment (including MARINI technology), carry out the retrofit and commissioning.
  5. Implementation and service – we support the documentation of technical results and service your plant after the project ends.
